Um, both, unfortunately ;-) ... the pun is important. It's in this pairing with "can't stand up" where
both have double meanings:

The tension in "what goes with what" is based on the difference between
"money" and "us" -- money tells a lie; we lie down; money can't maintain
the lie; we can't stand up; but also, we can't maintain the lie.
Really, the pun is for comic effect -- when we hear

we hear it as "tells a lie", since that's the only meaning that makes
sense for "money" ... but "can't stand up" twists the meaning humorously
(while making the meaning all "us", since there's no *literal* meaning
to "can't stand up" for "money" -- & it's a bittersweet humor since
there's a hint of death to it, esp. given the "in time") ... but to make
the analogy work we need to find a meaning for "can't stand up" that
*does* work for "money", & when we do, that works for "us" too & that
adds a note of bitterness (or sadness) to the humor ...
